What is Global Cash Card

Global Cash Card, often known as GCC, was a leading provider of payroll card solutions. The company's main purpose was to offer an electronic payment method for employers to pay their employees, especially those without traditional bank accounts. The service allowed businesses to reduce the costs associated with paper checks and provided employees with instant access to their wages on a prepaid debit card. Employees could use the card for purchases, bill payments, and cash withdrawals just like a standard debit card. In recent years, Global Cash Card's services were transitioned and integrated into myWisely by ADP, a major player in the human resources and payroll industry. This means that existing Global Cash Card users and services are now managed under the Wisely brand.

Global Cash Card Features

As a payroll card service, Global Cash Card offered a set of features designed for both employers and employees:

  • Direct Deposit of Wages: Employers could directly load employee salaries onto the cards, eliminating the need for physical paychecks.
  • Card Usage: The card functioned like a standard Visa or Mastercard debit card, usable for online shopping, in-store purchases, and at ATMs.
  • Mobile App Access: Cardholders could manage their accounts through a mobile application to check balances, view transaction history, and find nearby ATMs.
  • Bill Payment: Users could pay bills online directly from their payroll card account, offering a convenient way to manage expenses.
  • Fund Transfers: The service allowed users to transfer funds to other bank accounts.
  • SMS and Email Alerts: Cardholders could set up alerts for deposits, low balances, and other account activities to stay informed about their finances.
  • 24/7 Support: Customer service was available to help users with lost or stolen cards and other account inquiries.

Global Cash Card Pricing Plans

For the employee (the cardholder), the Global Cash Card service was generally free to receive wages. The business model is based on employers paying a fee for the payroll service. While receiving pay is free for employees, certain transactions may have associated fees. These can include out-of-network ATM withdrawals, over-the-counter cash withdrawals at banks, or card replacement fees. The specific fee structure is determined by the agreement between the employer and the service provider.

Global Cash Card Free Plan

There is no 'free plan' in the traditional sense, as the service is a payment method rather than a subscription software. For employees, the core service of receiving their pay on the card is free. However, it is important to be aware of potential transaction fees. There is no free trial, as the card is provided through an employer who has signed up for the service.

How to use Global Cash Card

Using the service was a straightforward process for employees:

  1. Enrollment: Your employer offers the Global Cash Card as a payment option. You sign up and agree to receive your wages on the card.
  2. Receive Your Card: You receive your personalized card in the mail.
  3. Activation: You activate the card online or by phone, setting up a PIN for security.
  4. Get Paid: On payday, your employer electronically loads your net pay directly onto your card.
  5. Access Funds: You can immediately use the card to make purchases, pay bills online, or withdraw cash from ATMs.
  6. Manage Your Account: Use the mobile app or website (now myWisely) to track your spending, check your balance, and manage your account.

Important Note: Since the transition, all account access and support for Global Cash Card is now through myWisely by ADP.

Pros and Cons of Global Cash Card

Pros:

  • Excellent solution for employees without bank accounts (unbanked).
  • Faster access to wages compared to waiting for a paper check to clear.
  • More secure than carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Widely accepted at millions of locations that accept Visa or Mastercard.
  • Helps employers reduce payroll processing costs.

Cons:

  • Can have various fees for certain transactions, like ATM withdrawals.
  • The transition to myWisely by ADP may be confusing for long-time users.
  • Dependent on the employer offering the service.
  • Does not help build a credit history like a credit card.

Global Cash Card integrations

Global Cash Card, as a payroll solution, was designed to integrate with various payroll and Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). This allowed employers to seamlessly process payroll and fund employee cards directly from their existing systems. As part of ADP, the service (now myWisely) is deeply integrated with ADP's own suite of payroll and HR products, such as ADP Workforce Now and ADP TotalSource. This ensures a smooth data flow for businesses that use ADP for their human capital management needs.

Global Cash Card Alternatives

  • Netspend: A popular provider of prepaid debit cards that are often used for payroll. Netspend offers features like a mobile app, cash back rewards, and optional savings accounts.
  • Paychex: Paychex offers its own pay card solution, the Skylight ONE Prepaid Mastercard, as part of its comprehensive payroll services. It is a direct competitor for businesses looking for an all-in-one payroll provider.
  • Brink's Money: Known for its security services, Brink's also offers a payroll card program, the Brink's Money Prepaid Mastercard. It focuses on security and provides tools for money management.
  • Fintwist: A pay card solution that emphasizes financial wellness tools for employees, offering features to help with budgeting and saving directly from the card account.

Global Cash Card API

Global Cash Card did not offer a public-facing API for individual developers or cardholders. APIs were available for corporate clients and partners to integrate the payroll funding process into their own software systems. Since the service is now part of ADP, any available APIs for payroll integration would be managed through the ADP Marketplace and ADP Developer portal. Developers working for a company that uses ADP for payroll should consult the ADP developer resources for information on payroll APIs.

Global Cash Card Affiliate Program

Global Cash Card does not have a traditional affiliate program for individuals to promote. The company's business model is based on direct B2B sales to employers. Companies interested in partnering with the service, now known as myWisely, should contact ADP's partnership or business development departments directly to inquire about potential collaboration opportunities.
